The definition
A unified life app meets three tests: (1) it ingests events from every connected surface into a shared timeline, (2) a single assistant can reason across them, and (3) actions in one surface update the others automatically.
If a tool only renders multiple apps side by side without a shared memory, it's a suite. If the assistant can't see your inbox while it answers a calendar question, it isn't unified yet.
Why the category exists now
LLMs made the assistant cheap. Connectors (Gmail, Calendar, Plaid, Slack) made the data reachable. What was missing was a substrate that joined them. The unified life app is that substrate.
How to evaluate one
Use this short checklist when comparing options:
- Does the assistant see signals from every surface, not one at a time?
- Does scheduling from email write back to the original thread?
- Does a finance anomaly show up in your daily brief, not just a separate dashboard?
- Can you ask one question that spans inbox, calendar, and money?
